Default Boosting the CB?

Looking to boost the signal for the CB between bikes.&nbsp\\; Hubby and I only seem to get about a mile before they cut out.&nbsp\\; Usually not too muc of a problem but already we have needed just a bit more distance.&nbsp\\; Any way to get them up to&nbsp\\;2&nbsp\\;to 5 miles?&nbsp\\; The farther the better...

Have you tuned or matched your CB with a SWR?

I agree with SoCal_Pappy - if you are only getting a mile something is way off the money. I've written you a post about what to check but too long for here right now due to forum post problems - PM me and I'll send it right back to you. Albion.

+1 on what Pappy said! With the SWR matched you should be able to talk 2 miles easy. Any GOOD cb shop can do it. If you want more a "foot warmer" (amp) is in order. The sky, and your pocketbook is the limit there.

When you get broken up so to speak, reduce the squelch and you gain some reception range, lotsa noise but it helps. I have had a few truckers say they can not believe I am on a bike the signal is so good, maybe I am lucky. I seem to have better reception/transmission range&nbsp\\;in front vs. to the rear of my bike.&nbsp\\; BTW Bluerose, nice pics of your trip!

signal rotates 360 degrees from ant. in front will be weaker than in back. swr will keep finals from burning but distance is a power issue. with all the traffic on the radio try lower channels or higher channels away from 19.

Go to local truck stop with a CB shop there. They will set up the SWR and they can also tweek it. Tho it isnt a legal thing to do. I believe to push more than 4 watts. But mines done and I get a 15+ mile range on the flats and much more on a hill.

Also bear in mind that SWR is linked to frequency. Normal practice is to set it on 19 then check it on ech opposite end channel. If you just - or mainly - use the CB for comms between your two bikes then set the SWR at the channel you are going to use, remembering that it will then be slightly off at 19, though it should still be okay. I guess you still use 19 as the hailing channel over there? Our govt. here in the UK makes us use FM, which is useless really, and we found that 14 worked better over here.
