The safety recall sent to all HD dealers dated 7/25/08 states that the remedy is to remove part # 62229-08 and replace it with 62229-08A. It says that based on the schedule from their supplier they expect to begin shipping 10,000 or more repair kits to dealers worldwide in their first wave on or before the week of 8/4/08. You will get a recall letter from HD concerning this if your unit is effected. If dealer has the units and is willing to start replacing them now, they can check your VIN on the HD web site.
My dealer also told me I had to wait for a notification in the mail and then bring in the bike. \\; And yes, I am looking for a new dealership to work on my bike. \\;
Hello Everyone,
Coming back from Savanah last Saturday my bike started making a hissing noise down low near the fairing. \\; Called Dealer tonight and they stated that I needed to bring the bike in as soon as possible due to a recall. They stated that they have four in stock and they would try to fit me in. \\; Well, just figures that I was planning to leave in the morning for a weekend trip in the mountains. \\; Anyone know how long this repair takes once they are able to fit me in?
Thanks to this forum, I printed my service sheet and called the dealer. \\; He told me that I was the first caller and also the first he'd heard of it. \\; I had my bike in with them last week to have the problem looked at due to excessive spray. \\; The tech said that the spray from the canister was in fact excessive and "adjusted" the canister (realigned). \\; I asked why he didn't replace it ... Said he couldn't if it wasn't broken. So - figure the laugh I had when the recall came out. \\;
After 10 minutes of "discussion" with the service department manager two days ago, I was finally placed on the "fix it" list - 1st in line. \\; We'll see how well that works out for me.
Hope they get the canisters in shortly after the 4th and I can get my bike in soonest. \\; Thanks again to all those that are posting all the great info here.
