Default ABS Brakes

I ordered my 08 Ultra Classic bike in March. I was about to pay for it for delivery whn I noticed the bike I was buying had no ABS. I specifically asked for that option in a certain color. They told me that was the only 50 state bike in that color. I ordered my bike through AFEES Military sales here in Iraq. I have a heavy foot and hand when it comes to braking so that was my answer with the ABS. My question is if I go ahead and buy h bike and deliver it to the dealer can they install the ABS system without a major overhaul? The option cost 1400.00 with the chrome wheels. That would be the easiest way because all the new colors Harley has really suck. So the only color I like needs to have the ABS on it. Thanks for the read.....Tom........Semper Fi

Default RE: ABS Brakes

To the best of my knowledge, ABS must be built with the bike and cannot be added later.

Capt Caveman is right. Dealer can install pretty much any option with the exception of the ABS. I was told it had something to do with the initial setup of the wheel sensor?

The ABS doesn't give you any more braking power, it only prevents wheel lockup. With that in mind I would just get the bike you want without ABS. I have had a few BMW's with ABS and never had the system kick in! I have converted my 03 Ultra to Brembo brakes and what a difference!

proper schooling on how to handle a scoot during braking acceration and thru cornering will be a much better asset than relying on a sensor that can fail at the worst time. abs is a nice option but training and practice will never fail you !!!!!
