any body have an idea why i need to know the ambient tempature (gauge on the dash) on my streetglide..........

It's primary function is to let you know when it's hot enough to start drinking beer. \\;\\\\\\; That's why I took it out, I was drinking too much beer.
It's there because Harley doesn't want to be responsible for your warranty when your engine seizes in the heat. The gauge locks in the temp at that time for evidence.
