Thanks for the concern. I do have ABS on the front but, It happened so quick, I don't think I used the front brake. The thing that sucks is that I was comming home from the dealer because they were fixing the saddle bag lock. I didn't know it was going to rain or I would have waited until another time. I've been caught in the rain before but, if I know it's going to rain I stay home. I know some people are pretty comfortable in the rain but I am not. I beleive that I was hurrying to get home because I was only about two miles away and I just screwed up. I can't blame anyone or anything but myself. Hopefully, a leson learned. I'm just glad I am still alive to tell the story. It could have been much worse. I really beleive that by steering the bike between the car and the curb saved me some downtime. I am goint to look at the scoot this morning to see how bad it is. I hope to get back to riding as soon as I can get it fixed. I am going to ask the insurance company to rent one for me.
I'm impressed...it takes a big man to admit when he made a mistake, and not throw the blame everywhere. Heal soon and hope your scoot isn't in to bad a shape.
Glad you escaped with only minor injuries man, could'a been lots worse. I can understand the "I'm afraid to look" sentiment re: your scoot. Get er fixed when you're able and enjoy the ride again. Speedy recovery.

What bike do you have that's equipped with ABS on the front and not the rear? I don't think there is such a critter.
I have an "08" Ultra Classic. It only has ABS on the front. Or, the ABS doesn't work on the back. I started sliding as soon as I touched the rear brake. I acually left off the brake an then reapplied and it still started sliding. Please tell me it's supposed to have ABS on the back wheel also. Because than I can have a new ride every year.
Yo Hammerhead......is that something that you had to add to your insurance policy, or is the rental thing included right off the bat???
I don't know if I have that option. I am just hoping. Actually, I took the bike to a local bike shop and they said they could have me back on the road in about three weeks. I hope he is right. I have to see it to beleive it. I take the bike to the insurance company Wednesday. I will find out then if they will give me a rental.
Sorry dude. Wish for a speedy recovery but it could have been worse. Hope the scoot is ok as well.
Well, I look at my ride yesterday and it is pretty bad!!!!! Frame is bent, highway bar really bent, both lowers broken, light bar bent, forks tweeked, front tireis against fender but not sure why, both floorboards messed up, right saddle bag scratched, tour pac scratched, shifter linkage bent, fairing scratched, windshield pulled out of fairing, handle bars bent, tank bent and scratched, and a few other things. Make me really sad to see my ride like this.
Atleast you are around to feel bad for the scoot, bent frame you must have hit hard. Check into that rear ABS think both wheels have it with the option.

There are no "front ABS only" bikes. You either have ABS or you don't. If you are certain your bike is equipped with the ABS option, and your rear started skidding "as soon as I touched the rear brake," then, assuming you were moving in a straight line and not leaning when this occurred, your ABS was obviously not working. However, if there was a problem with your ABS, this should have been indicated by your ABS indicator light staying lit instead of going out as it normally would once you hit 3-4 mph.
