If you go to Bub Exhuasts web site they say their slip-ons will bolt right up. They also indicate that they are presently working on a complete system for the '09 Baggers. I'm curious of two things. First, a 2 into 1 system should be a easy fit, but any true dual system, other then one that also travels under the frame as the stock one does is going to be difficult becuase the left side cover no longer has the notch which clearances the left header pipe of systems of '08 and earlier models.
And second. On the new 2-1-2 system, there is a catalyic converter in the collector. Is this going to hurt performance of any slip on offered. One good thing, it will please the folks of the EPA because the way I read the law (any vehicle) it's ok to alter an exhaust system "after" the convertor.......Rich
The converter in the pipes is only on the CA models and it is a $200 option
Thanks for clarifying that only90's. I was wondering if this was only on California bikes. Evedintly yes. And what option? I got no stinkin' option it's there and I gotta pay for it, unless I buy a out of state bike I guess.. Ride safe all, Rich
It would seem to me, that the good news is that on a true duals system, the rear pipe would gain some length due to passing under the frame. Is it not better to have the headers match in length on a duals system? Ala that funky basanni Looping thing?
As I see it ... we get louder pipes and the epa smog cops will be happy.
The EPA doesn't concern itself only with air. Part of being EPA-compliant is having a "green" amount of sound output too. I was going to say that if the different mufflers you put on are any louder than what came stock, you would be non-compliant; but the truth is that if the mufflers don't have an EPA stamp with a number that matches the sticker on your frame, you are non-compliant. If the mufflers have a stamp with a matching number and they have been modified (a.k.a. "tampered with"), then you are non-compliant.
Nothing seems more right than a little civil disobedience in this matter.
