It probably is exhaust smell. If your riding buddies saw black smoke then that is fuel, not oil. You are probably running a little rich.

Pull your plugs and see what they look like.

It is more than likely your ex valve guide seals. Been there done that. Its exh seal and or guide, you wont get a plug reading because the oil is not going in the cylinder. If you have true duals ask your buds which pipe was smoking, then pull that pipe off and look at your valve stem. Ill bet you anything that cyl will have an oil trail on it. if you dont have true duals you need to pull both pipes.

Will a compression test tell me anything? if it is a valve seal?
Nope. But if you had a bad valve seat you would.

If he tuned in too much fuel for the rear cylinder, perhaps in an attempt to keep heat down, he overdid it and causes cylinder washing from an overly rich mixture. That wouldn't likely cause problems for valve guides/seals, however. Did you use proper break-in procedure? If you didn't vary the speeds it could have starved the valve guides during their crucial break-in period. I'm just speculating here.

Anyway, a quart per 2k miles sounds high to me. My TC96 uses about 6-8 oz. between 5k-mile changes. Even my old Evo used only about 1 qt/5k miles, even after 106k miles with no engine work at all, and most Evos used more oil that your typical TC. Like you I used Royal Purple in that bike, and at last check it's still going at >115k.
I got my PCIII from Jamie at FuelMoto. I run his map. I unhooked the PCIII for two hundred miles thinking the map was to rich. I still had the smell with the lean Harley stage 1 download so I don't think it is map related.

We did the throttle test many times on the ride home and only a few times did the guys see anything come out the left tail pipe which means it's the rear cylinder. I had to really get on it. They said it happend right before I shifted and the smoke was black which indicates fuel. They say it smells like oil. There was five of them and they all say oil smell. I smell gas on the bike?

I did an average job breaking the bike in. It had 80 miles on it when I got it new. The Harley dealer was riding it for a demo.

I will check the plugs today and see what I find, if they look good then I'll have to pull the pipe and look at the valve stem.

I was hoping to go 25,000 miles before a tear down etc.

Here is a picture of the exhaust port. It is very carboned up even though the plug looks perfect?

Do you guys see anything out of the ordinary?

Looks OK to me. Carbon is normal in the exhuast port, and it is not wet. I would expect to see evidence of oil on the valve stem if you had a problem, and even tracking out into the port if it was really bad.

If the valve guide seal was bad would there be evidence in that picture or do you have to tear down to find out?

I'm close to having to replace the cam chain tensioners so I figure it might be time for a 95 kit. My brother in law can do all the work and has the special tools. I wanted to finish the summer out but I can't stand the exhaust smell when I ride.

You can see a clear view of the valve stem in the center of the picture. If the seal were leaking, I would expect to see that a darker wet looking color. It looks dry to me.
