What most do not realize is that if you have to rebuild your forks and you have one of these flush mount axles on, you will virtually ruin the left fork leg trying to get the axle cap out. The flush mount axle cap buries itself into the metal and trying to get it out is a MAJOR pain and not worth it to me. I am looking at the BAH end caps though.
That is what it is suppose to do. That is what holds the axle in. You wouldn't want it loose so the axle could rattle around. To remove the left side cap I use a round brass punch with a flat end. A few taps and I have yet to have one stick. On that note if the axle was purchased through me I have replacement caps available.
BTW nice job on writing up the self install. There is no satisfaction like a job well done by one's self.

i'm w/ "puzzled". never had a problem removing the cap to do an oil change. brass punch and a few whacks and it's outta the way. the flush axle setup and a bah cap makes the bike stand out.
