The stock Road King handlebars. To me, they suck, and always have. My 95 had the same problem that my 08 RK did... The handlebars made me slouch to a position that made no sense.
With the advent of throttle by wire on the new 08's, I had a delimma. I couldn't just go buy a Heritage Softail handlebar and throw it on. Or could I?
I took the plunge. I bought plain ol Heritage bars. I drew in the notches on the new bars, where the electrical throttle device slips in. (The notches prevent the throttle 'device' from turning inside of the bar)
With a dremel tool, I cut notches into the end of my new Heritage bars. Slipped in the electric throttle 'device' and viola! It was perfect. I assembled everything and it's been working great for almost a year.
Don't waste your money on the "Kits" Harley offers. Save the money, do what I did. Your back will thank you. I should also mention, I did no modifications to the wire harness, brake hoses, etc. It is a plug and play operation, just like on my ol 95 RK.
Hope this helps someone out there.

What was the difference in price between your job and the HD kit?
I bought the bike in December of 07. Back then, the only "Kit" avail included different bars that were of a larger diameter. The kit also had a new throttle device and possibly a wire harness. I didn't get far enough into it to see if new brake hoses or clutch cables were needed.
If I recall correctly, the kit was around $300.00 as opposed to the $40 I spent on the Heritage bars.
Does any one have the full dimmensions for the 56902-08 heritage bars. They only mention that the pull back is 3" more than the stock RK. Mainly interested in the height.
56902-08 heritage bars are the same bars used on the Police Road King Models used by LEO's I put them on my road glide a cpl months ago and what a difference! Up about 2" and back about 2" from the stock Road Glide bar. No cable changes. Direct fit. Cops ride all day with them in comfort, now I do too. Check for mine and RD Glide's previous posts on this subject. He has pics in his.
