Default I Almost Screwed Up Big Time!!

Last weekend I stopped at the local dealer to check out the 2009 Road Kings and got spooled up about selling my 2002 RK and buying a new one. I went to work this week and started shooting my mouth off about wanting to sell my 02. Yesterday one of the guys comes up to me talking all excited about buying it. He calls his wife and the bank and had that look in his eye. We settled on a price and I left work yesterday pretty sure the bike was sold. I went home last night, looked at my RK and my heart sank to my kneecaps. I sat out in the garage drinking a couple of beers staring at the bike, and started feeling real bad about selling my ride. I realized that my 02 is everything I always wanted and had it fixed up just to my liking. I knew I had made a big mistake, but I wasn't going to back out on the deal. I told the guy I would sell it to him, and didn't want to jerk him around. I had a bad night sleeping which is rare for me.

This morning at work my prospective buyer walked up to tell me that he decided it wasn't a good time for him to buy and hoped I wouldn't mind if he changed his mind! I could have hugged him, and I couldn't wipe the grin off my face. I like the 09's but I learned my lesson. I think I will just ride the wheels off of my 02.

Here is a shot of the one that almost got away. Man, am I happy she's still mine!!

Ill tell you what,

I LOVE my 09. Its everything I have always wanted a HD touring bike to be, literally. They have fixed every gripe I have had since I bought the first one. (except the price tag)

BUT.

There are still days I really wish I would have just kept my first one, an 03 EG Classic. It would have been paid off last month. I got that bike for 14k with about 16k miles on her. Kept it BONE stock, not even a stage 1 or slip-ons. Sold it when I walked into my dealer an saw an 05 in Blk Pearl/Blk Cherry, with V&H ovals on it. Bought the 05, added a TON of chrome and toys to her, put about 20k miles on her, and was gonna take her in over the winter for the 95" big bore.

Then the 07s came out with the 96" and 6 Speed, plus the Street Glide was out at that time. Traded in the 05 on the 07, put a 103" kit/pipes and a ton of chrome on her, and loved her every minute I had her.

Then the 08's with abs, and now the 09s.

And here I am with my 09, which I really, really love so far, and think I can finally keep one for the long haul.

But there are still days, very often, when I wish I had just kept the 03, put in a 95" kit, and had her painted the color I wanted (I never like the color of that bike-gunmetal pearl) I would be riding a paid for bike, all done up the way I wanted (or would have been by now) and not making that payment every month for the next 6 years.

As much as I love my brand spankin new 09, theres a lot to be said for an old time friend, tried and true, that you have adapted the way you want, and have history with. Im glad it worked out the way you wanted in the end.

2009 Street Glide

2007 Street Glide

2005 ElectraGlide Classic

2003 ElectraGlide Classic (where it all started)

I rememeber when i sold my 02 Ultra it was hard to let it go...but I already had my 06 RG in the garage. I plan on keeping my 06 for minimum 5-7 years if not longer. I bought it used loaded up with tons of goodies already on it...stuff I would have done anyway...so it stays.

Nice lookin' bike. The 09s don't have anything on you so enjoy what you got. It's very easy to get caught up in the new models every year.H-D is always improving them but the bottom line is you,two wheels and the open road.Ride Safe!

Went through all the same emotions, except I listened to that voice. Check out this link to see my 2000 paid off, finished the way I want it, detachable everthing, Road King. With almost 67K, I'm starting to think about a winter project with a new 110, but I'm keeping this KING till they put me in the ground.
I wish I could get this picture to be my signature, but for the life of me I can't get it to work. Any help would be appreciated.

My first bike was a Yamaha 750 Virago. My wife found it for me in the trading post. That was in May. A month later, after I rode her on it, I discovered that she loved riding and the Yamaha was too small for the both of us. She told me that the next bike I bought was going to be a Harley. The next day I bought the '08 Anniversary Ultra Classic and we are wondering why we didn't do this years ago. I can't see ever letting my first love go, so I guess I'll just add more as the need arises. I guess you can never have too many Harley's, can you?

Ace, holy makerel, I think you have kept Harley going practically by yourself over the last 6 years. Yowzaa, you've had some bikes!

Don't get me wrong, I think the 09 touring rigs are a great upgrade by HD, but now I know I can stay happy with my 02 after almost kissing it goodbye. I spent year after year looking at the HD catalogs, not so patiently waiting for the day I could buy my Road King. When in 2003 HD eliminated the double Timken bearing bottom end, I knew a 2002 was the year for me. And then when I had finally scratched the cash together I kept looking till I found just the right one last year. It was the first newish bike for me 1974.
