Use the search screen for past posts on police bikes. Many posts about them. Bottom line, try and find a police bike that hasn't been to a school, since they put the bikes down numerous times there. Tell-tale signs are the crash bars on the bottom/underside; usually scuffed up, that aluminum (front) fender skirt may be bent. If you can find out what PD the bike came from, get the VIN and see if you can speak to one of the motor unit and get a little history on the bike. Not always an easy thing to do but it's worth a try...
Another thing: dealers tend to give PD's crap for trade-in on the bikes and have a hefty used price on them for the consumer. Negotiate a good price! Good luck.
My first Harley was a used police bike. Bought it used with 9,000 miles and kept it for years without an issue. Have the bike checked out if it is in good shape and a good price, go for it.
Be very careful about getting a used PD bike. Several of the guys I work with are motorcycle cops. They do not strongly buying them. They are driven hard. I think it also depends on where the bike came from. My local county agency barely ever rides theirs. The agency I work for drives them into the ground.
Point Man: I did do a search and if you don't type in just the right words you may or may not get what you are looking for but thanks for the info.
russl179: I priced an '08 EG Standard at Paris HD and out the door it would have been over $18,000 after TTL and fees.
Thanks for the replies everyone but went outside today and saw that the corner of my house has settled and pulling the bricks apart. My money may be going to the guys with the heavy duty jacks. Texas dirt is wonderful.
