Default Used Police Bikes?

Looking to possibly move to an Electraglide from my 07 Superglide w/8500 miles. I have found some 06 used police bikes locally with 9-10,000 miles on them for $13,500. They are fuel injected but probably only have the 5 speed tranny. Not sure myself when the EGs went to the 6 speed. Looking for opinions, good and bad, on this move. The bikes look like they are in pretty good condition from the pics on the internet. They are at a small bike shop thats only open Tues thru Friday. Looking to make this move to do some road trips with the wife and I think the EG would be a better ride.

Sincerely,
Confused

I prefer the cop bikes because they are like a clean slate for mods. The 06 will have the 5 speed and 88 cubic in motor. 07's have the 6 speed with 103 cubic inch.

Do your homework carefully as to how much money it will take to outfit a cop bike for two-up touring. I looked at this a couple of years ago, and the closer I calculated the less sense it made. You will probably do better looking at an 06 or so civilian EG.

Thumbs up Police bikes may be a good choice.

I bought a 06 FLHTPI w abs brakes. It came with the black and chrome motor, unlike the standards (silver paint). The tires were already changed to civilian units. If you dont need a radio its an easy bike to mess with. I added a rear seat mustang pillion, and detachable passenger back rest, floor boards. I also added oil temp and press guages, not very difficult to do.Just make sure the bike wasn't flogged like a rented mule. Ask to see the service records if possible.

After seeing the way our department beats them (LAPD) I would never spend that much on one.

Default police bike- only way to go

I am on my second FLHTP and I would go this route again if I buy another. Mine had 150 miles on it as it was a demo model. But the best part is that everything I changed, I would still have changed on a civilian model. The seat, pegs for two-up riding and a radio....which cost me around 700.00.(seat is 350 and radio about 200, floorboards about 200) Ok, so I paid 15k for the 07, this is what I got ABS brakes,( around $800 option) a 103ci, (around a $1500 option)security system (around a $400 option) and a oil cooler,(around a $250 option) add these on to a FLHT ( bare bones model with a grey motor, 96 ci)of around $16.5 and you end up with and you total around $19,400. I paid $15,000, add my optional seat and radio set up I had $15,700.00..... That leaves me with just under 4k to send on chrome and paint and whatever else I want to put on, which, btw you will do th your bike anyway... Your prices may differ a bit, but in the long run its the way to go.... My first Flhtpi was a 98, I did all of the same as above. I paid 12.5 for it in 1998, in dec/06, (thanks to the help of a lady cutting me off) I totaled it, because I kept all of my receipts my insurance company paid me $15,600 (so I got my 07 almost for free) (all prices do not include taxes)
Good luck.......

I am riding an '08 FLHTP now and believe its the best Harley I've ever owned. I added the chopped tour pack and installed it with the forward tour pack rack so I can use the back rest. Seat is nice and would never change it. I don't and won't do any two up riding, never have never will. I bought mine new but would not hesitate to buy a used one either. I see people beating their hogs a lot worse then I see cops beating hogs.

I'm extremely pleased with my '04 EG police model, purchased in Feb. 05--it was an off-lease bike used for motorcycle escort service (which I mention because not all police models are used for law enforcement purposes). And as mentioned above, they're a nice blank canvas to work from.

Broaden your search for the police models and check prices. Frankly, $13,500 is close to what the bike would have sold for new in '06.
