Sometime this week I'll be tackling changing over to a chrome front end on my 08 SG and purchased the lower flush mount axle block from FBI. It requires removing the two lower studs on the left fork leg and using the supplied cap screws to achieve the flush fit. Before I dig in, does anyone have any experience or secrets in removing the 2 OEM studs?
If you dont have a snap on type stud remover , you could take two nuts of the thread size in question, thread them on flat side to f/s, tighten them together and use a wrench on the innermost one and back it out. The idea is to turn the inner nut against a stop so the stud will turn.
You may have to apply a little heat to the stud/fork leg if it is rusted in there, not much just enough to expand the alum. You could also us a pair of vice grips, but you wont be saving the old studs. It should be a piece of cake.
PS got a pic or a link to the caps, I may put some on my RG, if they come in black PC
