Here's my '02. Started blacking it out in '03.
This spring it's a black 2-1 D&D Fat Cat pipe, saddlebag rails, rear turn signal bar & housings, and if I get real ambitious, the handle bars will be blacked out too. There's some other chrome bits I plan on getting rid of. Next year it'll be the saddlebag and tour pak latches, fender tips and skirts.
It helps that our sister company is a powder coater and is perfectly happy to do small runs for me. In fact, every March they start asking what & when I'm bringing parts.
leohd, i still think blackbetty is awesome!!!! well, except for the "chrome circle"
j/k, i have told you before, your scoot is frikkin' hot!!!
thanks for the compliment again, your RK is looking great, a bit of advice, don't start with the black unless you plan on eventually getting at least 80% done, its hard to find the right combination of black&chrome, thumbs up to ever34, I just went all out except for the silver lil circle to match the stock wheels. that black powder is addicting but alot cheaper and more rewarding then the white powder. jmho, good luck on your choice.
Here is my 2004 RK Custom. I went gloss black with everything so it would match the frame. I powdercoated the heat shields and have only a slight discoloration right where the pipe exits the cylinder (hot spots). Also, to save a little cash on the mufflers, instead of ceramic coating, I used Krylon Hi-Temp BBQ black paint ($4.95). It comes in flat black or semi-gloss. Three coats from one can and they have held up great. Sure, a few chips on the bottom of the pipes, but the paint survived a trip to Alaska and back!
Pretty much enerything that I could fit in my old oven I powdercoated myself with the exception of the enging covers. I have never had an issue with anything I did myself, but I felt more comfortable having the high heat parts done professionally. I have saved a bundle coating the small stuff myself.
By the way, thanks for all of the compliments on my 'king!!
