One thing i love about "going black" is the number of different combinations you can obtain. Wrinkle, gloss, flat, gloss with flake... how much is black and what's left chrome. black engine and parts or just one of the two.. The combos seem endless. Great lookin scooters. I can't wait to get my parts PC'd and get the bike back together so I can get some .02 on it!!
I will possible do the lower fork sliders. I think I will leave the cowbells, headlight and other lights, the engine guard, handle bars (and controls), and the foot controls alone. I also think I will get the colormatched saddle bag latch covers. I would like to get it into a paint shop to get rid of the pin stripes and tank vinyls.......
To give you an idea of just doing the lowers and leaving the cowbells stainless.
Now I am looking at probably doing the bullet turn signals, my passing lamp buckets (leaving the front ring and bezel chrome) and the mounting bar that they are mounted to in the same gloss black powder coat.
The front bumper needs to go (should of done it while the fender was off getting the lowers powder coated, but forgot).
And then gonna do a nice shiney crome fender skirt in place of the stock one.
Here is my 2004 RK Custom. I went gloss black with everything so it would match the frame. I powdercoated the heat shields and have only a slight discoloration right where the pipe exits the cylinder (hot spots). Also, to save a little cash on the mufflers, instead of ceramic coating, I used Krylon Hi-Temp BBQ black paint ($4.95). It comes in flat black or semi-gloss. Three coats from one can and they have held up great. Sure, a few chips on the bottom of the pipes, but the paint survived a trip to Alaska and back!
Give this stuff a try. I've used it in a lot of places like calipers, rotor carriers, wheels etc. all with good results.
what brand, make, or model of Powder Coating equipment/supplies are you using?
I have a simple Craftsman powdercoat gun and I use an old oven that took a lightning hit and knocked out the stove top controls. If you take your time and prep things right it is actually pretty easy and enjoyable.
Chicago Spike... Sweet bike (other than it is in Pittsburgh Steelers colors!). Here is my bike with a little bit of blacked out stuff.
Are you kidding? Spike needs the Steeler logo and that "Sixburgh" of Lombardi Trophies airbrushed in that RG fairing!!
Looking good Spike.
