Default Thinking of buying a Bagger!!!!!

My first post to this forum since I do not have a bagger. I currently ride a 1200C and love it. Have gotten my wife to ride with me finally and she loves riding with me now. Having said that I am now looking at getting bagger for a 2nd bike that will be more suitable for the wife and I to take longer trips. After doing some looking around I really like the Road King Custom in Vivid Black. Looks like the Street Glide without the faring. Awesome looking bike. I know HD does not make them anymore so I will need to find a slightly used one. Can you tell me what years they made the Road King Custom? The only thing I did not like about the bike was the soft bags. Can you put hard bags on the RK Custom like the ones that are on the standard or the Street Glide? Thanks in advance for your input.

I think the road king was produced starting in 1994.
Here's a link for grins http://www.hdtalking.com/general_tip..._produced.html
I'm pretty sure all the bags can fit all the touring bikes with a little mounting bracket adjustment.
A used black road king shouldn't be too hard to find.
Welcome to the touring forum.

The last year for the RK Custom was 2007. They really aren't soft bags, they are leather wrapped hard bags but to answer your question, yes you can put on the standard hard bags. I was pondering that same thought but I just can't get myself to let go of the looks of the custom bags.

I have a feeling once you buy a Road King that your Sporty will be neglected.

Check out my photo album...just sold that bad-azz '07 FXDC for an '09 FLHRC and NO REGRETS!!! Not taking anything away from a Dyna because I loved my old bike, but the riding experience on a bagger is night-and-day!!! You'll probably never want to ride anything else! Go for it!
