Have any of you "drilled out" any of the baffling in the stock pipe? I really like the looks of the stock pipe, but would like just a touch more of the exhaust thump to make it thru!!! Almost all of the aftermarket stuff I've heard is louder than I really want.
I am interested in doing the same thing you are and hope we get some good response. I'm not looking for something a lot louder, but a little deeper, richer sound. Does anyone know of modifications to the stock touring mufflers that would accomplish this?
My dealer will do a "bore out" of stock pipes with Softails. Says they can't do it on touring mufflers. Different internal construction I think is what they said.
Regardless, I don't think that's the way I would go. I agree with terryt1955.
I gutted out my orginal pipes on my Roadking. Im talking nothing inside period, just a hollow 4"tube. It sounded good, with a really deep hard hitting note, however you couldnt ride the bike without earplugs, especially on the big slab (too loud). I ended up replacing them with some Vance and Hines slip ons.
I've done it to three of the Electraglides I've had. I punched the front baffle with a sharp 1" rod and the rear baffle with a half inch hole. The smaller hole in the rear baffle eliminated to "pop" sound typical of punched out OEM mufflers. The punched mufflers were better than the stock. On the last two EG's I replaced the mufflers with aftermarket slip-on's and have been more satisfied. I bought slip-on's for my '02 EG on Ebay. Just need to be patient to get the deal you want on Ebay.
