Pulling the Ignition
I would like to do the spot light conversion, but can't figure out how to remove the ignition switch on my 04 Ultra. I read the thread with the schematic, and there is a post on how to take the ignition off, but I don't see a pin at 7:00 to push in. Does anyone have any better direction? Do you push a pin, which I can't see, into the shaft? Or is there a pin you push down?
A few other pointers: First, the spacers under the **** will go back in the exact same order, so make sure you either remember their orientation or remove them as a group and put them somewhere safe until ready for re-assembly. To remove them you'll need to unscrew a nut at the top first. Whatever you do, never insert the **** shaft back into the hole without the spacers under it. If you do and move the ****, you will get the tumblers out of sync and getting them back in order is a big hassle, which I won't go into here. It isn't easy, so just be careful and do it right! Ask me how I know about this!
The second pointer is to not lock the forks prior to pulling the ignition-switch **** , as if you do you won't be able to move the handlebars. To move the fairing cap out of the way you'll need to be able to move the handlebars.
It's really very easy as you will find out, so don't let this sound like it's a complex maneuver. Just beware of the gotchas and you won't have any trouble.

The procedure is slightly different for '05 and older bikes from the '06 and newer bikes.
I have an '04 and have had the ignition off many times. The Service Manual explains the procedure accurately.
As mentioned, the pin is located at about the 7 o'clock position of the ignition **** when the **** is in the off position. I use a small flat blade screwdriver to depress the pin (by pushing upward). First, however, the ignition key is in the ignition, the ignition is turned to the accessory position, the pin is depressed, and the key is pushed down and rotated counter clockwise past the "lock" position (about 60*) and ignition lifted up and removed. Use a 7/16" wrench or channel locks to remove the switch nut, then remove the collar and spacer.
Good luck. Buy the Service Manual.
