Somehow the lock on my ignition switch is half way between lock and on. I was putting it up after a short ride. I turned the key to lock it and then turned the switch to lock. Only after turning the switch to lock did I see the lock was in the half way position. Now, no amount of wiggling the key will get it to unlock. Is there a procedure or a secret handshake or something that will cure this?
Sounds like your tumblers on the key are stuck. Try a little WD-40 down in the key pocket, insert the key and play with it trying to work the lube into the tumblers. If you are lucky it might eventually turn to lock or off
Thanks to all who gave me advice. I finally had to grind down the outside nub on one of my barrel keys and it turned right back where it supposed to be. I took the opportunity to remove the switch and oil it up. Carl, thanks for the suggestion, I have added my bike to my signature. Thanks Pretz for the Video on removing the lock.
Taildragger, your '99 uses a very different lock mechanism than the '06 and newer models. The video is probably of an '06 and newer model which will probably not help you--at least it wouldn't on my '04 EG.
Yep Carl... the little button was a little different but the lock came out and went back in the same way. I'm thinking that maybe the lock mechanism is worn for this to even happen in the first place.
