Default sticky ignition switch help

Since I still use my key to lock up my ignition switch, I noticed today that when unlocking it, my key wouldn't turn all the way. It was suck in the middle. I eventually was able to wriggle it out, but am afraid of breaking the key/lock. Any advice?

Spray a little wd40 where the key goes and exercise it a couple times. Usually helps me

When routinely servicing the bike (oil, etc.) I always use graphite lock lubricant in all of the locks to keep them good.

Do not use WD40, that dries, gets gummy and fouls up everything.

thanks everyone- so even though the "tumbler" of the lock will not turn all the way (feels impeded or stuck), i should try some graphite lube? Do i need to think about replacing the whole lock asap? DO NOT want to get stuck somewhere....

Go with the graphite lude, or 3 in 1 oil, or something of that nature, should be ok, unless you are aware of any reason the tumblers should be binding. I wouldn't replace it right away (IMHO) unless you just have the money itching to go. Save it for better mods, oil/lube it and work it in before your next ride... if working smooth, keep testing it through the ride when you take breaks, and rebuild your confidence in the parts operation. If it doesn't get better after lubing it, then replace it before you ride again.

FYI, WD-40 is not a lubricant, it is a solvent therefore, to be used to remove lubricants... works like varsal. DO NOT lube anything on your bike with WD-40...

Just this week I lubed the saddlebag locks plus hinges and the ignition switch. Smooth...
