ok i have to ask.... on the 1984 flhtc is thier a better ignition key lock for it? as it stop someone from starting it.... as i found the switch can be turn to on even with the key out of the switch....
The lock is a lot more secure than the two bolts it takes to remove the dash, unplug the switch, and plug in your own "unlocked" switch to start the bike!!!
The ignition lock just keeps the honest people honest
Yeah, keeping honest people honest is the best you can do. After that, to keep a little less than fully honest people closer to honest, a cable and Medeco (or Abloy or Assa, etc.) padlock, or cobralink or even the kryptonite U locks will slow them down.
With the lock itself, I unlock mine, move it to the first (off) position with the key still in, turn the key back to lock and take it out. Then turn the switch to ignition and ride. When I stop, I just turn it off, then turn the forks to the left and the ignition switch to Lock and I don't have to put the key back in to do that. Oh, if you turn it to Accessory with the key in lock, it will stay there until you unlock it. If you switch behaves differently, there's something wrong with it. It is also unobtainium now.
