Default 98 flhtc ignition switch removal without key?

Hey all,
tumbler went bad, key slot is stuck between lock and unlock. Had to use channel locks on the big **** to turn it to start bike, but still can't get key in to lock or unlock it.
That means, I can't take the ignition off since manual and forums all say you need to key to take off the **** while depressing the tab underneath.
I'm loathe to attempt to take the *** off without the key. I could just forget about it now that I can turn the bike on at least, but do like the ability to lock it as a discouragement to theft.
I have searched all the forums and even my mechanic is scratching his head short of using a dremel to cut the **** off but said will have trouble.
Thanks
CB

There is a recall on '98 FL switches. You may want to see if yours was done and if it is still an active recall.

if I recall (when I broke mine) that the top of the switch where the nut goes on is plastic ,, so you should have no problem snapping it in two , then just order a switch with keys as the replacement come w/o keys and tumbler

I may or may not have heard that there exists on utube a video showing how to pick a barrel lock using part of a ball point pen.

If the slot is stuck between lock and unlock you can file off the tab on a key and then slide it in the barrel lock.
