I am brand new to this forum, but not new to Harley. I owned a 2002 Heritage and traded it for a 2005 Peace Office Editition Ultra Classic Electra Glide. My right front speak blew this weekend on a ride. I removed the speaker and it stated is was rated at 8 ohms. Two questions: 1) What ohm rating is the stock 2005 AM/FM/CD/CB head unit? 2) Will a set of quality 4 ohm after market speakers work? Thanks in advance for your advice. Ride safe.
thats been my question now several times on here. i have an 02 with factory radio and having some issues with the radio (seemed like after it got hot it would cut in and out) previous owner had put in a couple pioneer 4 ohm speakers. so i take it 02's are suppose to be 8 ohms as well?? sorry didn'tmean to hijack your thread
bad pig i gave you somne bad info before. did some research, 02 to 05 are 8 ohm speakers 06 and up are 2 ohm. im not sure why everyone says 4 ohms will work. risk of amp heating up is present
to the rest. if you run a amp to power the speakers then you can run 2,4,8 ohm speakers. whatever you want. amps are easy to mount fairly inexpensive and a good way to upgrade the system without removing the head unit
loulids has some firecap501 has arc audio units and there are others. mh instruments has an amp for 500$
sorry 05 ultra i would recommend hogtunes to anyone. at a cost of about 10$ per watt and a massive 11 watts per channel you are barely above stock so... keep the link for the uninformed
thanks....thats why i been scratching my head going WTF?? i was hearing 2 different things. i'll check out getting an amp insteead of switching out speakers. prolly cheaper to add an amp to my 4 ohm speakers than to buy 8 ohm speakers. more sound the other way i figure..lol
Thanks for the help guys. I may go with an amp and 4 ohm speakers or take the less expensive route and purchase the HD High Performance 8 ohm speakers (P/N 77181-01) at a dealer in PA who sells them for 2/3 the cost at my local HD dealer in AZ.....Bad Pig..no problem joining the thread.
