The manual does say to screw the oil stick all the way in, than check it. Its better to check it hot too. The dip stick has a cold check side, and a hot check side, both sides show different levels.
Check your manual again. One side is for checking with sidecar attached. ( Bike upright rather than on jiffy stand.)
