just bought an 08 flhrc and it wont be long before im due a new rear tire.... i have always used metzeler me880s on my harleys, but this is my first harley with wire wheels... i am told that you arent supposed to use an inner-tube in a standard motorcycle tire that is of the tube-less type, (the inside of the tire will shread the inner-tube) if this is true, how do i tell if the tire is of the inner-tube compatible variety.....? im going to order on-line as usual..
there was a discussion on the v-rod frum, about putting a tube in a tire that was leaking and wouldnt seal a the rim....the gurus said that if you put a tube in a tire that wasnt designed for it, that it would abrade the inside of the tube and cause a blowout....
i thought too thought they were all the same....i knew that you can put a tire from a wire wheel without a tube on a mag with no problems....
im supprised to hear that dunlaps wear well... everyone ive ever owned, lasted about five thousand miles on the rear... i get about nine from the metzelers..
The spokes WILL loosen with time. Ain't no biggy to tighten though. Arguments abound on that topic though. If a tire doesn't want to seal on a rim then it shouldn't be forced to by means of tube. I have a me880 on my front with >10k miles on it. I have laced wheels and put a roofing nail through it. Took it off and to an indy to have new tube, not sure they patched tire but would think so and have put 8k miles on it with no worries. BTW, I've hit 120 with it too. Not the smartest thing but WTF?! I TAKE risks.

I could be wrong, but I think I smell a Troll that doesn't know his rubber.
Marsh
thats right chief, you caught me.... ive owned 12 harleys and put half a million miles on the road and metzelers have given me better service.... i just never owned a tour bike with wire wheels before, shame on me for stating my opinion......
Were you replying to me ( you said chief ) or marsh ??
I made no comment about which tire was better .. Only that you do use tubes with wire wheels and I have never heard of an abrasion issue with a tubeless tire running a tube .. Cause I have used a tube in a tubeless tire ..
