Which is about 2000 RPM. The dealer said that the manual was wrong and I should not even go into 6th untill I hit 75-80 MPH. Is this right?? Not any speed limits that fast around here.
What speeds is the correct speeds to shift at for fuel economy and still not lug the engine?
I was thinking that they came out with a correction for that actually. I tend to agree with the dealer...55 is too early to shift into 6th gear. 65 for me, at a minimum.
I think you'll get a whole bunch of different responses to this question as there isn't really a "correct" shift point. Personally, I shift at about, 20, 30, 40, 50, 65. I don't get to top gear very often.
My bike does not like 2k very much, it is at the verge of lugging. I like cruising at 2500, but thats just me. I put about 1200 miles on a 07 softail and never got use to the six speed tranny, it felt like I was lugging in every gear. I know they changed them again in 09 so maybe they are better now.

This is pretty close to where I shift although I don't pay much attention to the speed as much as an occassional look at the tach.
65 is the minimum for me in 6th but usually closer to 70.
IDS, stage 1.
I shift into 6th no lower than 62mph, as anything below that the engine feels labored. It isn't "lugging," per se, but just feels like it's quietly asking me to speed up or downshift.
you should be able to feel when the motor is lugging, and someone here mentionned,
they dont like 200orpm too much, the 07's up like the higher revs than the 1450 models...
anywhere from 2500rpm to the 3000 rpm should be fine for cruising, and if you need that extra get up and go, let it rev higher....its not unusual that i get on the highway here and
go into the 4000 rpm range just to get that extra power before shifting....but you should
feel when its not the right speed to shift....
hope that helps....
