Well I did it, dropped $ 650 on a Zumo 550 from PCnation. I was wondering how to wire it directly to my bike. 07 FHLTC. Also, I understand I can load MP3's on the unit and listen to the MP3 music and street prompts through the stereo aux. Is this true?
Many have spliced into the wires behind the cig adapter. I bought a cig adapter plug and am using that.
Yes you can load MP3's and play they through the AUX port. Just get yourself a cable to plug into the ZUMO and radio and you'll be all set. I listen to the MP3's from the ZUMO often.
Three options for hard wire to circuit that turns on and off with switch
1. There's a spare hot and ground spade tied to the wire harness right behind the headlight.
2. Tap into the lighter behind the fairing
3. Tap into the Acc plug under the seat
If you decide to go behind the fairing, you may want to run your patch cord down the bar and behind the fairing and out the right side next to the radio for a cleaner look. It requires a 6" wire. 1/8" stereo jack on both ends.
You'll need an SD memory card to store the MP3s. Zumo will handle up to a 16GB card. Keep in mind that the Zumo will only handle up to 1,000 songs so a 16GB may be overkill. Then again, the Zumo also has a built in picture viewer so any extra space on the SD card can be used to stor pictures you might want to show friends.
Load the MP3s onto the card in a normal directory structure. Don't just dump them into one directory as this will seriously slow the Zumo startup as it will have to log each so as it boots up.
Example structure: Artist (sub Dir), Album Title(sub Dir), Songs(MP3s)
MP3
Alan Jackson
Don't Rock The Jukebox
Song
Song
Song
Brooks and Dunn
Red Dirt Road

If you See Her

If you have to rip the MP3s from a CD, make sure you use a program that will also save the ID Tag information as this will let the Zumo find the song under Artist, Title, Song Name.
I bought a cord to connect my Zumo to the aux on my Advanced audio system and I changed the mode to aux but I get no audio, any suggestion what I'm doing wrong?

go to Tools and then Volume and make sure the audio and navigation levels are all the way up. Actually I keep the navigation down at about 60% so it doesn't blast out over the tunes during prompts.
Wired mine in using the spare hot and gorund spades mentions above, works great.
Dont' use it much when I am headed out (unless headed to specific spot) as wife and I like to just ride off, but man when you get to where you are ready to turn around sure is nice to hit that "Go Home" button and off ya go!
Check and make sure the cord is inserted in the correct hole (always important) and in completely. Is it a stereo cord? I haven't used my Zumo for music, but the voice prompts came through fine.
I used method 1 as described by Wecroft and it took less than 30 minutes and looks/works great. You will also need two small blade connectors. You'll also need a tie-wrap or two to secure the long-long power cable under the fairing.

On the Z's audio setting crank the volume up to 100%.
On the wifes 08 RK I ran the power wires under the gas tank and used the 4 pin accessory under the seat. Bought the mating connector and pins from local dealer. Works good.
