Getting ready to install some HD Pullbacks on my 05 Ultra. Question I have is: Will I need to extend my switch control wiring or just reroute it? Would like to have everything together BEFORE I tear it down
As far as I've learned, the only issue will be the clutch and throttle cables. The wiring should work out fine. Do a search and you'll find lots of info on it. Quite a few folks have done it.
I put those bars on both an 01 and an 04 Ultra. I didn't have to replace any cables or extend any wiring. The rigid part of the brake line will need to be bent a little and the clutch cable may need to be re-routed slightly. Biggest PITA is removing the ignition lick and the plastic shroud that goes over it.. Be careful that you don't pinch any of the wiring when you re-install the switch housings. Pretty easy job overall.
I replaced my bars on my 05 EGC with Cyclesmith 13" apes and love them. I didn't have to extend the wires, just move them around under the fairing.I did use +6 cables and brake lines, all in stainless brade. Now is a good time to change your switch houseings to chrome while there off anyway.
i did that change on my 07 e-glide. used the same cables, just have to re-route the clutch cable and slightly bend the hard brake line some. get new grips before you start, i had to cut the left grip off.
Save your money and skip the new cables. You don't need them. As stated earlier, you just have to reroute the clutch cable a liitle bit and slightly bend one brake line. The wires work fine too. Did mine two years ago and have had no problems. The pullbacks solved my back ache.
Thanks for the input on this. Good news on the wiring, I picked up the brake line set for the sidecar model (couple of inches longer) already so that's a done deal. Had these bars on a 1997 Ultra with the Corbin seat and when I got my newer bike the 05, I couldn't believe how far forward the stock setup was and a neck ache. I did not do the original swap on the 97 on it had all braided cables so I wasn't sure what exactly was necessary.
