Default Handlebar question

I have a 2005 FXD. Can I put on the wide glide mini apes (56079-93T) without changing the cables? I know I will have to replace the brake line but will my stock throttle and clutch cables work? What about the switch wiring? Will they have to be lenghtend?

Thanks in advance.

Wiring should be OK, but I would not be so sure about the throttle/idle cables and clutch cable.

No, all the brake, throttle, clutch cables need to be replaced, and the wires need to be lengthened.

The stock '06 WG bars won't fit a SG. They are thicker, 1 1/4". and the WG bar clamps match that. The SG clamp includes the speedo, and the WG clamp does not. You need to get stock Bobber bars, as they are the same as last years WG, at 1".

Another (and better) option is to get Wild1 bars. They are 1 1/4", but are necked down at the bar clamp and grip areas. They are heavier, and don't vibrate as much as stock. The hand grip are is shaped for better ergonomics. And the chrome is higher quality.

You should also consider running the wiring inside the bars.

I have a 2004 FXD and all I had to change out was the brake line when I installed the Wideglide miniapes. The brake line is a stock Wideglide hose and bolts right up. My switch wiring reached just fine NO cutting, throttle cables ok also, clutch cable is a little tight fitting but I have been running with it for over a year. A 2005 FXD should be the same thing. I hope all works out well for you.

Thanks for all the good word. I will do some more research before jumping in. I was not really looking at the FAT bars due to cost but I like the fact that you say they handle the vibration better.
