If its not to be used for accessories, then I'm in trouble because I use it for hooking up a small air mattress pump and, a small handheld CB radio from time to time. Seems to work just fine. Could it be concern for using items that require too much of a draw on it?

I honestly doubt that whatever you use in there besides the cigarette lighter will draw more current than the lighter, that has to pull quite a bit! I can't think of any reason not to use it. I have forever.
I use mine for my cell phone no problem. You have to be careful about the adapter that plugs into the cigarette lighter socket though. You want to make sure that if you turn the handlebars to full lock, the adapter doesn't hit the tank. That would damage the socket. That's the only reason I can see that the manual tells you not to use it for accessories. As far as electrically speaking, there's no reason it won't work. Also, keep in mind, when you turn the bike off, the socket goes dead.
Of course they don't want you to use it. They want you to go buy the "accessory plug" that connects under the side panel. How they going to make more money if you use the one that already came with the bike? haha
