The time that you save doing it yourself you can buy a FSM and see that its no big deal.

3 hrs. is flat gouging anyone. When you look at the kit and see those two oil lines that are barely 9 inches long ask them just where they expect to run the things to and from that takes all that labor time?

Cool

Took me about two hours, and that included the time to run to the dealer and get a different oil filter wrench. Made my own 7/16 allen the way it was suggested earlier with a bolt and a nut. I just welded mine on. The only thing that sucked about the whole deal was not being able to put the chrome voltage regulator cover back on. It interferes with the oil lines. So now I guess I'll go out an buy the chrome voltage regulator.

I had the same problem with the Chrome Regulater cover not fitting on my 05 Road King. The Harley catalog says that it would fit. They be wrong. I'll have to wait on the Chrome Regulator budget constraints.

I've picked up a rock or something that was good and solid. It hit the seam on the left side of the cooler core to the end peice. It kicked it in pretty good.

I think that I'm real lucky that it did not hit the core. I'm sure that if it had I'd most defiantly lost all the oil, made a big mess, could of lost rear wheel traction and possiably lost the motor if it ran alll the way out with out me knowing!!

I'm really liking the idea of a Blenn-Air Oil Cooler, over the H-D preimum that I'm running now. Bit pricy but you get what you pay for the way I see it.

And if your not into that much money, these V-coolers don't look all that bad either.

Here's the ticket on the chrome regulator cover. Cut the flange off on the drivers side of the chrome cover and remove the chrome mounting post so the oil lines will clear and not kink. Bolt that side on just as it was before with one nut on the bottom thru bolt. The edge you cut off the reg cover can be filed flat and then take a 2" piece of 1/4" black tubing and slit it down one side and slide it over the fresh cut, thus protecting the new oil cooler lines from rubbing on it. Effectively, the chrome cover is now only mounted with one bolt on one side, but it's pretty secure and it looks fine. By the way, the oil cooler only took about 45 minutes to install and once I figured out how to make the regulator cover fit, the whole job was about 2hrs.

Once on a trip we took a detour which deteriorated to a muddy quagmire. When I made it back to civilization I noticed the cooler was plugged up with mud, which dried into hard dirt, which obviously negated the functionality of the cooler. When I made it to the next town I found a car wash and sprayed it clean. That's the only issue I've had in nearly two years of service.

Thanks for the replies / ideas! Based on the picture from Ram, I'm thinking that the cover would be a good idea, even if it could compromise low / no spped convection.

Only about an hour and a half for install and it was the first time for me and was being deliberately careful. HD dealer is a little high with three hours. Maybe if they had to diassemble parts on the bike to put the cooler on I could see a couple hours, but not three. Instructions are overkill. Would be better with just drawings and minimal wording.
