Question Is it normal? (brakes)

for the front brake pads to slightly touch the rotors when not actively braking? I can hear it at slow speed (like in the driveway) but when I slightly pull the front brake it goes away. I have checked the life of the pads and they look good, although the right side seems to wearing a bit faster than the left. I have ridden the bike at speed for hours at a time with no perceived ill effects. My VTX did the same thing from new, so I have not thought it strange until just now.

Advice?

My RK does the same thing. I asked a friend and he said his EG did it too. I "think" it's normal?

Normal to hear slight rubbing when moving around in the garage.

Yes, it's normal. The old style drum brakes had springs that retracted the brake shoes away from the drum when the brakes were released. Disk brakes don't work that way. You apply the brakes and the pads squeeze the disk but there are no springs or anything else to pull the pads away from the disk when the brakes are released other than the action of the disk itself turning between the pads. Normally, it's not anything you'll notice but as you've discovered, you can sometimes hear it at slow speeds. It's nothing to be concerned about.

FWIW!

All disc brakes drag a little. As said, there is no retraction springs on discs. Your cars and trucks do the same thing, you just can't hear it unless you leave the car engine off and push it around
