Wow, I'm amazed DMV micro-manages it like that. Blown away. They need to fund a "study" to determine how often that strap does anything to enhance "safety". Not holding my breath.....

Didn't have time to mess with it. Cut it off.

Useless and dangerous if you ask me. There is no way holding onto that thing would keep someone from going off the back either in a rear-ender or an unexpected throttle twist. Only safe thing is a back rest.

Lose it.

I better question would be "is there anyone who hasn't removed it?

The old OE chrome passenger grab rails fit the '07's contrary to what the catalog indicated. Do they still fit the '08s and '09?

Take it off, but leave the chrome bracket,,,its a handy thing to hook bungee straps and other stuff too.

Just a "fer what its worth". When I took the strap off my 09 the chrome brackets were different than what I remembered on the 07. The strap will slide off one side but you have to unbolt the other side. I suppose it makes it easier to swap seats and still retain the strap. Anyway, I took all the hardware off. And not to kill anybody with the obvious, but the strap hardware is bolted to the front saddlebag mount, so when you take the bolt out, the bag mount swivels. Just reposition it where it looks close, attach the rear saddle bag pin and then move the front bracket to the point that the pin will go through, then snug up the bolt.
