Can anyone tell me what parts are needed to make the Tourpack a quick removal so I can ride locally without it?
A while back I was given a part # for a kit that cost $595.00.
Now when I call they give me the following part #'s:
4-Point Docking Hardware Kit 54205-09 $149.95
Detachable Two-Up Tour-PakŽ Rack 53276-09 $179.95
Antenna Relocation Kit 76556-09 $69.95
While these are cheaper than the first kit I was told about, they don't sound richt and the antenna kit is down right ugly, not to mention what to do with the CB antenna?
Never mind.
I finally found a parts guy that knew what he was doing.
The part # is 53246-09 - Detachable Tour-PakŽ Rack Kit for Electra GlideŽ Classic Models
Transform your Electra GlideŽ Classic model for around town cruising. This kit includes everything needed to convert the rigid-mount Tour-PakŽ to an easy on-and-off detachable version. In just seconds (and without tools), you can install the Tour-PakŽ for that long run across the country, and remove it for a stripped-down look when you get there. It also makes it possible to install a detachable Sissy Bar Upright and passenger backrest pad for around-town passenger comfort. Complete kit includes two-up docking hardware kit, detachable Two-Up Tour-PakŽ Rack chrome strut covers, chrome license plate holder, reflector, and AM/FM antenna relocation hardware.
Yep, I just ordered that kit last week. I pick up the new Ultra tomorrow, but I don't think the kit is in yet. I was told that you'll lose the CB while tour pack is detached, which is ok with me.
If you want to use the CB without the TP on an Ultra, look at the parts catalog for the CB antenna relo kits. There are at least two--either would work. You will need to have the antenna tuned for the relo spot since the antenna cable length will likely change.
HD is very slow in providing detachable TP kits. Example, until '06 or '07, HD didn't offer a kit for the EG Classic, probably because of the antenna. But owners were using the detachable TP racks before HD offered it for the Classic by solving the antenna problem with antennas inside the fairing or the antenna kits HD offered for other models.
As late as at least the '05 model year, the HD catalog fitment information didn't even show the detachable TP racks applying to FLHTC or FLHTCU bikes--just RK's, RG's IIRC.
Picked up my new 09 Ultra last Thursday and added the quick removal tour pac kit and added the digital antennae in the fairing for the radio so that when pac was removed, radio worked without having to relocate the antennae in the back. Works great and easy to use, just have to disconnect three wires and wrap and place under seat.

How easy was the installation, does the kit relocate the license plate for the 09 bikes? Thanks

You could find someone with an swr meter and check the match on the antenna but just changing the length of the cable shouldnt hurt a thing. Its the antenna length thats critical with any transmitting device for optimum power the swr (standing wave ratio) should be as low as possible. Sooooo.. I wouldnt get real excited unless you decided to cut 4 inches off the antenna .

The quick removable tour pac quick looked fairly easy to install. Keep in mind I had it done as part of the delivery of my new 09 Ultra. I watched a very experiences technician doing the work both putting the kit on and adding the digital antennae in the front. The license plate relocates just below the tour pac in the rear just above the tail light and looks good.
