Just about ready for a new tire so considering adding the IDS kit.
I have none of the whining or rattleling. Any of you had NONE of the symptoms and still added the IDS? \\; If so, what were the results?
07 Ultra- 8000 miles
I never really had the "5th gear whine" I kept reading about, but I did notice some clunkiness when shifting gears. Not bad, but it was still annoying. Added the IDS on the Elbow Grease program when I had a store credit, so it cost me next to nothing to do.
FWIW, I'd do it again. Smooths out shifting considerably. I also never lugged my engine below 2000 RPM (which is what a lot of folks claim was the moco's motivation for coming up with it...hawgwash I say! Pun intended =) Other mfr's have been using similar systems for years for a number of reasons. HD finally caught up with the rest of the crowd.

I \\;didn't really have the 5th gear whine that others experianced. \\; But I did install the IDS under the "Elbow Grease" program also. \\; So wasn't that expensive to do. \\; There's a difference but not a huge noticeable difference. \\; That said HD did make it standard starting with the 2008 models so evidently they thought it worthwhile.
i have ids, glad i did it for a couple of reasons it makes sense for prolonging the drive train, i use my rear brake alot for slow manuevering, it helps to steady the bike for those rolling stops too lol. and i think the ids will help to keep some of the pressure off the drive train, not all of the pressure but some of it.
RIDDEN MANY \\; MCY'S OVER MANY YEARS \\; ... 37. \\;  \\; MY OPINION...
 \\;
FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT INSTALLED THE IDS ON UR \\;\\\\\\; 07'S...YOU \\;\\\\\\; DONT KNOW \\;\\\\\\; WHAT YOU'RE MISSING. \\;\\\\\\; THE IDS WILL \\;\\\\\\; MAKE IT SEEM LIKE YOU ARE RIDING A DIFFERENT MACHINE. \\;\\\\\\; IF U HAVE THE $210.00 \\;\\\\\\; (WWW.DISCOUNTBIKER.COM) \\;\\\\\\; JUST BUY IT... ITS THE MOCO'S MISTAKE.. \\;\\\\\\; WHY DO U THINK THE 08'S \\;\\\\\\; AND UP WILL ALL HAVE THE IDS.. THE O7'S WERE \\;\\\\\\; THE MOCO'S .. BOO BOO!
THE CORRECTION \\;\\\\\\; WAS THE IDS!
MY 2 CENTS.

I installed the IDS, it's a simple task if you have ever changed a rear tire before. I would recommend having the dealer install the bearing unless you have a press and a sleeve to install it correctly. Otherwise you can damage the bearing and end up with short bearing life. I think it just helps a great bike become that much better. \\;
