When I was painting the house about ten years ago, I kept one of the quart size paint can lids. I tied some heavy monofiliment line to it and started carrying it in the saddlebag. OK, I probably don't use it but once or twice a year but when I get in an "iffy" situation such as grass, soft asphalt or the occasional dirt lot I pull it out and don't have to worry. It is kind of like insurance, except it costs nothing and takes up hardly any space. I like things that save me grief and quatro. I have noted that some of the paint can lids in use now are plastic, which would not work as well.

These are used if your going to park in soft gravel, asphault, grass, etc. I carry one becuase in the summer, the asphault parking lots can be a little soft. HD sells the round black disks for $5.
