Default Electrical problem solved

I am posting this to maybe help someone out if this ever happens to them!

I have had a rather perplexing problem with my 08 SG. The bike would run fine while on the road, but if I started it up on the side stand it would start right up and then the battery light, engine light, security key light and the ABS light would light up solid and stay on.

I finally figured it out. It had to do with the handle bars being turned full left was causing the problem. Turn them straight or to the right and all was well.

I took the outer fairing off and found one of the bundles of wires was up against the sharp corner on the Heat Sink on the HK radio. It had worn a small hole through the protective sheath and was into one of the wires inside and was grounding out. I put a piece of shrink tubing on the wire, moved them away from the sharp corner and all is fixed.

If I would just climb on and center the bars and start off it was fine. I had it in my head that something was wrong with the ECM because it would not happen all the time.
This took me a while to figure out what was going on. I hope this helps someone else out.

Sure nice when things go right isn't it? Sometime electrical problems are the worse too. Glad all is well.

I had the same problem with 2000 1200C Sporty. Turn bars full left after I turned key off. Put key in and turn on before I got on and started bike. The instant I turned the key on I blew a fuse. A sharp edge on wind shield mount pierced wiring harness when bar turned full left. Took care of the sharp edge and electrical tape to cover pierced wire. No more problem. Took a week and a few fuses to find.

Can happen also if your handlebar grips clamp isn't tight enough and it slides back. It will pinch the wires which have to be tucked in the groove. Intermitant problem blowing fuses but then OK when got running and hot. I thought it was a relay because sometimes would pull those and it would stop blowing fuses but found out fr tech that a relay won't blow a fuse.
