Funny thing is, when you drop a Harley, anyone who sees you is usally more concerned about the bike than the guy laying under it!

+1 on that,
by the way, anyone know the part # for saddle bag guards for an 08 Roadglide? After reading the last 9 or so pages, I'm "in the market" for a set.
Thanks,

Talking

Well time for my story,

I was riding a jap bike, Kawi Nomad. I have to put the kickstand up to back it out of the garage, well when I did, I forgot to put the kickstand down when I got ready to get off and shut the garage door.... they don't stand up very long without the kickstand down, so over she went. Now this is where it get funny (not at the time, but in retrospect).

I was by myself, no help, so I got my lower back into it and got it stood up. Forgetting that the bike was in neutral. Well, it started to roll as I was trying to negotiate putting the kickstand down, well..... yep you guessed it... here she goes over to the other side.

I'm out in my driveway rolling this Nomad all over the concrete.

After that, I went over, put it in gear, put the kickstand down and set it upright. The good news, after all that, all I had was a few scratches on the highway bars and a couple of light scratches on the saddlebags handles. Pretty lucky for my stupidity.

Thought ya'll would get a kick out of this. Like I said, it wasn't funny at the time, but I would have loved to be watching this from a window across the street.

OK, I must really be a dumba$$... First incident--Fall '99--Left M-cycle Safety Course, it started to rain on my way home. Pulled up to the garage and got off the Fat Boy to punch in the remote code on the door opener--ooops--forgot to lower the sidestand--turn signal and mirror damage. Number 2--Summer of '03--pulled into buddy's garage with my V-Rod--it was his annual "car/bike cleaning" party, probably about 75 in attendance. Got off the bike (parked next to a Kaw) and, ooops, forgot to lower the sidestand--no damage. 3 was gravel related--no damage. Last one--just after I had the new center stand installed. Word of advice--don't hold the front brake lever when you're trying to get the bike on the stand--it WILL fall over. I'm sure I will drop it again, but, as always, hope for no damage. Yes, I AM a dumba$$.

A friend of mine told me that one day, he pulled in a gaz station to fill up his bike. He pulls up just beside the pump, puts on the brakes to stop the bike and leaves his two feet on the floorboards. Over he went. Sometimes your mind is really somewhere else. I never ride beside him.

I have done this more times than I want to remember -- the latest was I had stopped the bike to let traffic pass to make a U-turn then I started playing with the Ipod and forgot to balance the bike -- over it went ever so slowly -- did I mention this was in front of the bike night crowd--I picked it up (walked it up) re-started and u-turned into bike night. lOTE=nolafishr;3845628]I went out Riding Yesterday and pulled into a Convenience Store for a Break, I pulled into a Parking Spot and noticed I was too far to one side so I started to back the Bike out and straighten up and when I turned the Wheel to go back she started to go over on me and I was sitting on the Bike trying to hold it up but it was too much for me so I let Her go over easy onto the Engine Guard and Saddlebag Guard, I got off and started to pick Her up and a Guy saw what happened and came over to help me out, we got her back up and on the Wheels. I told Him I felt like a Fool, He said do not worry about it and that it happens, I told Him Thanks for the Help. I checked over the Bike for any damage and did not see any, not even scrapes or scratches on the Engine/Saddlebag Guards, Thank God for them because it could have been worse. I will be more careful next time if I have to do that, it was a First.
