Default Earplugs/ Quiet Engine

Back when my 2007 Street Glide caused a lot of helmet buffeting (since solved) and the wind noise that went with it, I started wearing earplugs (the ones made of soft rubber with an accordian like surface and connected by a plastic string). I kept wearing them when I added louder pipes and I am now in the habit of always wearing them. These 60 plus year old ears can hear the stereo and the pipes and my wifes voice as a passenger just fine with them in but I didn't realize how much ambient noise like the mechanical sounds from the motor that I wasn't hearing until I forgot them yesterday and rode for an hour without the plugs.
A suggestion for all of you riders, try a pair for a few rides! I think you will appreciate how only hearing the pleasing sounds from your bike makes each ride so much more enjoyable.

You might be thinking of headphones are illegal in some states. I've never heard of earplugs being illegal anywhere. There is a big difference!

I use the Shure earphones that block noise. Just got back from a 2400 mile trip. Love 'em.

Again, show me the law that says "earplugs" are not allowed. They don't restrict sounds from emergency vehicles (quite a few specifically say so for that matter), so there is no obstructed sound. Headphones are quite a bit different because they don't lower the sound as much as replace it.

I've been wearing earplugs for years. The wind noise is deafening to me.

I've tried earplugs and don't like them. I gotta hear everything to be comfortable.

Default ear plugs

I have always used cotton, get a bag of cotton ***** at the drug store and keep a few in your watch pocket or bag. Tear off a small piece big enough to fit in each ear and you are good to go. Throw them away OR use them for a candle after a while.;-))
Cleaner and more sanitary and work very well. You can hear just fine with them in and they
block wind and muffle loud noise.
