Hi-sided; bike needs some work; suggestions
I'm lucky to have recived only a major concussion, bruised ribs, and a broken thumb.
I've never needed to contact the Insurance co (statefarm ) before, regarding any damage.
I was told by a dealer I was going to take it to, that he had seen where a new Ultra was written off for just falling on its side.
It is now at a private shop back in Canada, awaiting my Ins rep.
It's there because I was advised by a buddy that they will work with me on parts and labour, where the dealership will not.
I was also advised at the private shop, that if the front engineguard tab/bracket is bent, in his experience, they also automatically write it off.
As of now, I'm into a fairing; trunk; engineguard; handlebars; lever; maybe a bent exhaust...
MAYBE upper forks/trees/etc if there's any bend to them.
The bike starts and runs; will likely turn once the fairing is removed,
but finding neutral seems to be a problem...its a 6spd SE conversion. I also have the 95" kit w/o cams.
About a settlement/salvage: I was told that if the frame was done, and I got a new one, it would cost huge to re & re everything.
I'd rather fix my own than take a chance with someone elses used bike.
I would likely rattlecan the bike flatblack if that meant saving the cost of paint to put those $$ towards paint pr upgrading while I'm there (ie:changing handlebars which was my intention anyway this winter).
What should a <20,000miles 04 RG with the BB 95"kit(w/o cams); SE6spd; SE muffler kit;RR trunk; oil cooler; heated grips (i think thats it) be worth from a settlement point.
I'm just concerned that for whatever reason, if the rep writes it off, I'm going to be left w/ a cheque that won't cover my repurchase of same.
What do you suggest, and what are my optons that the rep/dealer might not mention.
