There going to be hot as someone said nature of the beast. True dual exh looks good, sounds good, does not eliminate heat but does take your money! I had a 03 Classic 88in it was hot also, now my 08 96in is just as bad. They have to be lean to pass the epa crap from the factory simple as that.Get a 2into one pipe or any set of pipes to eliminate the cross over, a fuel management setup and a set of good heat shields. That should do it. Look at the 09 HD got rid of the cross over under the seat!
Not true. V & H True duals & a properly setup Fuelpak code definetly reduce the heat specially on the right side to where it is more than just tolerable. Ask my wife's right leg.
Could i just add a fuelpack .I just installed my monster ovals and really cant go true dual right now maybe later. When i got the bike i got the stage1 and heavy breather if it makes any difference.I also heard about the cobra fi2000.I understand that both the fuelpack and cobra dont reguire any computer savy.would either of these do.
Cams help the motor breath better. Stock cams have no overlap thus turning the engine into a cat converter to meet epa guidlines. I also second the rj's originals. Look good and work better than HD or Kury heat shields.
i did a stage one with a SERT, and richened up the mixture a bit. added RJs Originals and heat on the boys ain't a problem anymore. even in the hottest of weather, stopped at a stop sign, it ain't nothing like it was before. The RJs are really the way to go. They work well and look great, plus you really do get great service from RJ.
I live around Palm Springs, Ca where it's nothing to hit 120+ degrees. Yes the 96CI runs hotter then the 88 the MAIN REASON is EPA settings runs it LEAN and LEAN means HEAT.. Finish the stage 1. DO NOT do a dealer stage 1 download as they are required to adjust per EPA standards and that will still leave you LEAN. Get yourself a FUEL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM & if your not going any more then a stage 1 think about a V&H FuelPak - VERY user friendly install & set-up (30 min max). Change out to a GOOD SYN oil (AMSOIL or MOBIL 1). and you'll see a difference. It may still feel hot at times but no where where it is now... Oh yea... RJ's Originals work & look better the the plastic HD or Kuryakyn's..
I solved my heat issue with Oil cooler, Amsoil, Rush 2.0s, Sert, K&N A/C with SE, Dyno. It's no water cooled engine cool but it is better than i expected considering the source.
They are hot because they run so lean. SERT I don't think will help as much as the Power Commander to richin it up because Harley is bound by the EPA. Power Commander is not. I added the PC to my 07 Ultra and it helped with power and heat a lot. My main complaint is the lower gas mileage.
Still gets hot being air cooled but nothing like before.

My bike came to me with the stage one dealer download. What are the ramifications of putting on a fuel management system after the fact?
