Kicking around the Compu-fire 3 phase system or the 45 amp HD upgrade for my 99 Road Glide? Any thoughts pros/cons of the Compu-fire 3 phase system? Really not sure I want to stray away from HD in this department. Thanks
I put stock harley 06 65 amp alternator on my 99 ultra. I had my stater burn up and also the regulator . I had the laminated 12 magnet assembly and was warned they would go out of balance and a upgrade to a new one piece would be better. The price in fact was less to buy all 06 parts than replace the 99 parts. I got the new 3 phase stator the new magnet structure a new regulator and a repair pig tail to put on the leads going to the battery and ground. The stator pn 29987-06 the reg pn 74505-06 the rotor and pig tail you will have to get the numbers from your dealer
99s are notorious for burning out a stator. There was an "unpublished" recall to relocate the plug higher in the frame. Seems oil would run down the wires and short everything out. I got lucky back in 2000 when I "stumbled" on the problem...when I was adding an oil cooler, I discovered oil in the connector. I complained to the dealer and was told of the "fix"; which is an extension cable.
