Dispatch, they have not Killed the Rallys. (They've up'ed my Property Tax to study the problem!) If any of you have followed what's going on, since the County Council can't stop just the Atlantic Beach Crime Fest they're coming down on us (Harley riders) too. What goes on during Atlantic Beach Bike Fest is out of contol and has been for many years. Most business owners are Not complaining about the Harley Rallys but Some old Farts complain that the Harley rallies are Noisy (and they are) but people are Not held hostage in their homes like ABBF. As a property owner (and a Harley rider) I'd be happy as a Pig in Mud if they'd stop ABBF period.
Be aware the owner of SBB is saying he might have to let the new place go. It's costing an arm and leg for it to sit empty except for bike weeks. Don't know if you're know the owner of HB Spokes past away a couple of months ago but the business seems to be doing well.
hamnhog unless you know someone and can verify the motel I'd say come on down and then find a place to stay. Resturants... any thing you want. I'm more familure with the North-end but there's a good Thia resturant south of where 501 runs into Ocean Blvd. If you want reasonable Fresh seafood and you travel north to Calabash you have Ella's and the Sea Food Hut. The Sea Food Hut has a daily special (until 4:30) for less than $7.00 including tea.
Come on down it should be great weather. I'll be around somewhere on the North end for a week or so.

Noise ordinance goes into effect immediately
According the the Myrtle Beach Bike week site and the City of Myrtle Beach website the new laws/ordinances have been passed and several will go into effect immediately (i.e. before next week's rally.) Among those taking effect immediately is the noise oridinance with bike impound for repeat offenders. The noise level has been defined as requiring either an EPA sticker or an idle dB level not to exceed 87dB. (That is somewhere between city traffic noise and a power mower up close.)

They are really pushing the laws through. Especially the first 3 that pertain to bikes. They were supposed to have a 90 day wait so that everyone would be up to speed on new rules but I see they lied about that also. Since that probably don't have db meters they most likely will be looking for the EPA stamp on the pipes. I wonder what kind of pipes the MBPD are using?? They'll probably be all over highway 17 lurking.
SECTION 56-5-20. Applicability of chapter to vehicles operated upon highways; exceptions.
The provision of this chapter relating to the operation of vehicles refer exclusively to the operation of vehicles upon highways, except:
(1) When a different place is specifically referred to in a given section; and
(2) That the provisions of Articles 9 and 23 shall apply upon highways and elsewhere throughout the State.
SECTION 56-5-30. Chapter applicable and uniform throughout State; local regulations.
The provisions of this chapter shall be applicable and uniform throughout this State and in all political subdivisions and municipalities therein, and no local authority shall enact or enforce any ordinance, rule or regulation in conflict with the provisions of this chapter unless expressly authorized herein. Local authorities may, however, subject to the limitations prescribed in Section 56-5-930, adopt additional traffic regulations which are not in conflict with the provisions of this chapter.
SECTION 56-5-3660. Helmets shall be worn by operators and passengers under age twenty-one; helmet design; list of approved helmets.
It shall be unlawful for any person under the age of twenty-one to operate or ride upon a two-wheeled motorized vehicle unless he wears a protective helmet of a type approved by the Department of Public Safety. Such a helmet must be equipped with either a neck or chin strap and be reflectorized on both sides thereof. The department is hereby authorized to adopt and amend regulations covering the types of helmets and the specifications therefor and to establish and maintain a list of approved helmets which meet the specifications as established hereunder.
SECTION 56-5-3670. Goggles or face shields shall be worn by operators under age twenty-one; list of approved goggles and face shields.
It shall be unlawful for any person under the age of twenty-one to operate a two-wheeled motorized vehicle unless he wears goggles or a face shield of a type approved by the Department of Public Safety. The department is hereby authorized to adopt and amend regulations covering types of goggles and face shields and the specifications therefor and to establish and maintain a list of approved goggles and face shields which meet the specifications as established hereunder
