Default Black streaks on my wide whites, RKC?

I have been trying to figure out why I get black streaks on the right side of my wide whitewalls on my ‘07 Road King Classic on every ride.

I do not get the streaks on the left side of the rear tire or on either side of the front tire.

I have taken a clean white cloth and patted the entire underside of my bike, including the bottom of the engine and the trans and do not find any drips or leaks. I also removed my slip-ons and reinstalled them using high temperature silicone sealer and new HD muffler clamps, just to be sure some condensation was not spitting out of the joint where the slip-ons connect to the exhaust pipe. I still get the black streaks.

It is a PITA to remove the saddlebags and put the bike on a jack just to clean off the black marks.

I know that I could just ignore them, but you can see from my forum name that I like to keep my bike looking pristine. I know that I could switch to blackwalls when I need new tires, but I prefer the wide whitewalls for the classic look on my RKC.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing the black marks?

It's your brakes.
I had wide whites on the fatboy I used to own and the rear always
got nastier than the front, although I had a single disc instead of your duals
in front.
I used "Cycle care Formula 1" wheel and white wall cleaner
to keep the tires white.

As was stated it's brake dust.
I attribute the streaks on mine to cleaners left between the tire and wheel, where it's impossible to get out. The residual cleaner/water whatever is "flung" outward when riding and the brake dust sticks to it.
I agree very annoying.

Mr. Clean, when I saw you sig I thought you had stolen my bike. I wonder if you have the same special order paint as I do.
Do you know what yours is called?
Marsh
PS: I don't seem to get the streaking problem you describe. I use a product called Bleach White. I get it at Auto Zone.

The solution to your brake dust problem is to install Lyndall 7195-Z Plus brake pads. The brake dust will disappear. I had the same complaint on my 07 Road King Classic and after putting the Lyndall's on the front and rear, not only did the black streaks disappear, but the bike stops better also.

I've heard of this solution, but where does the material that must come off the pads.

Marsh: My bike is the 2007 Custom 'Blues Brothers" colors. The darker color is Jake Blue and the lighter color is Elwood Blue. The Jake Blue is very similar to Deep Cobalt Blue. I think it might even be the same color except that my clear coat is tinted blue while the clear coat on the Deep Cobalt is clear.

If you click on the Photobucket attachment, you can get a better view of the Elwood Blue.

Thanks everyone for the replies about the brake dust. I do not know why I never thought of that.

Lyndall pads it will be the next time I need to remove the wheels.
