Well, the only time I wear a full face helmet is in the winter and it's about to be here and it's got me thinking...Is there any way to use speakers in my helmet and plug them in my stock radio on my 08 Street Glide?I don't use a CB nor do I care about communication with a passenger. All I want is to hear my radio through helmet speakers and still be able to use my hand controls to control the radio. Can it be done? Here's a link the H-D's website with a headset that I wish I could use: http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...bmLocale=en_US
want the same here, need to know how to hook up headphones to the stereo. I am sure a audio shop could do it but would like to know how to do it myself. Anyone???
You could do this with one of the lower end Autocom or Baehr intcoms. Just tap into the wires on the back of the radio and brings those into the intercom.
Or what I am still planning on doing on my BMW is to use the unused rear speaker connections in the radio wiring harness and then bring this into either a Autocom or Baehr unit. Then you could use the fader control (does the HD radio have this) to either listen through the spoeakers or your helmet headset.
You could replicate those parts of the Ultra's system that provide helmet headset sound. Check-out the wiring diagram in the back of your HD Service Manual and it will identify the wires at the rear of the radio that carry sound to the headset plug found on the tank console. And the wiring diagram for the plug will show which sockets carry sound to the helmet (left/right).
Then get the parts book for the connectors, pins, plug, etc. and wire up what you need.
I did something very similar to this on a buddy's '06 police model when he wanted to add an older HD headunit because he wanted CB, but without the intercom and rear speakers. Pretty straightforward. It's basically recreating a wiring harness for the functions you need. And you don't have to replace your tank console to locate the headset connection.
However, most folks don't want to mess with a project like this--hope you will so we can read about it. Good luck.
P.S. I don't have any difficulty listening to my stereo with a full-face helmet.
