I got caught doing 76 in A 55 on I-40 here in Nashville...first I'd had in A long time, just wasn't watching what I was doing..The man handed me the ticket and said be careful....I took the test on line so it wouldn't go against me. Sometimes when you play you got to pay..lol...Everyone ride safe.
The whole speed thing is a joke. The only reason there are posted speed limits is for the IDIOTS out there that can't drive, Try telling me the skill level is the same for 2 people doing 10 mph over, Dale Jr. and a 16 year old on the phone while driving with a boom box on and 3 other girls in the car !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your driving speed should be set by your skill level, just like your credit score is set by how well you pay your bills. My $.02

You're kidding right. What agency is going to test you to see what your skill level is for driving so many MPH over the limit and what electronic device will you have to have installed in your car to signal the LEO not to stop you for going over the posted speed. Sorry, but that is a ridiculous idea and could never be implemented. LOL
A very good friend of mine has been a city cop here for over 20 years. He is always telling me "If you get a ticket for speeding in the city, call me as soon as the officer is done and I'll get it fixed." To which I always reply "Joe, if I get a ticket for speeding, I deserve it." The speed limits are posted for everyone's safety, including bikers. If I decide to exceed the posted limit, then it's my bad when I get busted, not the cop's. Sorry to hear you got caught, but hey, too bad. Now watch, I'll get busted tonight on the way from home from work!!!!! LOL
Inside the city of Atlanta, the speed limit on the highway is 55. I don't typically write the speeder unless they are 80+mph. That's 25 over. I've written for less though... depending on my mood. 70mph is typical. There's no hard and fast rule. All city streets are 35 unless posted at which point I draw the line at 50+mph. That's still 15 over. Don't be mad at the cop. We have a job to do just like anybody else.
Ben
Ben thanks for the information. I work in Atlanta and live in Cobb. I am not a speeder and stay well within the limits you note. The hardest part for sure is the surface streets. I will say the Cobb Police, who I have the utmost respect for, typically have a little less leeway for the lead foots. Thanks for what you do for us. Did you do the Shelby Ride? That was a great time!

Maybe in places like wide open Montana,Utah,Wyoming etc... because in the more denser locations of civilization speed limits are crucial. It would be total mayhem and anarchy w/out them in some places.
It really is a no-win situation. Ive been a Deputy for 15 years and ive seen all sides. Ive been fortunate in my career to have some great assignments, among those were as a motor officer and a traffic homicide investigator. I now am the supervisor of those guys and I cannt over exaggerate the number of traffic complaint calls i get every day. Every survey always shows that traffic and aggressive drivers is everyones chief complaint, well over burglary or persons crimes, but no one wants to get a ticket. I understand, they are expensive and who can afford that? Then when I send the Deputies to an area to address a complaint, I get calls that we have a "speed trap". If I dont do anything about the complaint, I get called back and told how "we pay your salaries, come do your job and slow these people down" or "there have been 5 fatalities on this road, what are you doing to solve this problem?"
I hope the guy was kidding about your skill setting the speed limit. That would be great to have your kids ride their bicycles in the "no speed limit" neighborhood as some Dale Jr wanna be comes blasting through.
