My son and I took a 100 mile trip yesterday and he wanted me to ride his 06 Ultra. To make a long story short, while riding it would just stop running for maybe less than a second. It did this five times within the 100 miles. It was almost unnoticeable because of the short duration. At first I thought it was just the wind, but the bike actually died for a split second. Is this likely to be an electrical or fuel malfunction? He just had new injectors installed 300 miles ago due to a recall. Could this have anything to do with it? Anyone ever experience this? Help.
He called the one of the local dealers and he said he wanted $65 to "evaluate" the problem and then it would be $80/hour to fix it. I think he already knows what is happening.
Just a thought...pull seat off and make sure your battery cable connections are good and tight. I have to resecure mine every so often as they work loose from vibration, I know when mine are starting to work loose as I get a very faint crackling through my front speakers when playing ipod through stereo, might be worth a check, also when they replaced injectors they might have disconnected battery and didn't get them as tight as they need to be
We checked the battery connections and the wires from the ignition switch but everything seemed to be ok. Thanks for the suggestion.
There is no popping or noises of any kind when this happens. Just the feeling for a split second that the engine is off.
In the 06's there were a bad batch of injectors installed at the factory. There was a general recall, but my son bought his bike used and they had never been changed. Even though the recall is over Harley still has to pay for having them exchanged under the emissions portion of the warranty.
I'm not sure about that. He only owned it for about 50 miles before the injector work was done. Good point though. What could the injectors be doing to cause this?
Surely someone has run into this situation before. Any HD mechanics out there have any ideas? I would just like to know if the dealer is BS'ing us when we take it in.
