I wrote a few weeks ago about how while riding between 30 - 50 mph, 2-3K rpm, my 05 ultra was acting like it was running out of gas - lurching and surging.
Dealer checked the fuel pressure and it was fine. Then they checked my compression 75 - 105 front to rear - problem.
They opened the cam case and found damage to both cams on the inner support ends - not the lobes. One $1800 super cam kit later (thank God for extended warranties) and they said come pick it up.
I drove 2 miles and it was still doing the same thing. The service writer was incredulous when I brought it back 5 minutes later and explained it was doing the same thing.
You won't believe what they found to be the problem - the insulator on one of the new spark plugs had broken loose and was jumping up and down on the center electrode!
So I got a whole new set of cams, oil pump, cam bearings, cam support plate, etc. because of a $6 spark plug!
So if you get that kind of symptom, you might just pull the plugs to be sure. According to one of the techs, they have had some pretty poor quality control on the split-fire Screaming Eagle plugs.
So if you get that kind of symptom, you might just pull the plugs to be sure.
Why the heck would you want to pull the plugs to check when you can get a whole new cam chest out of the deal Glad things worked out for ya and now you should be good to go for quite a few many more miles.
Glad this worked out to your advantage. Sometimes I wonder if they test drive after repairs or do they notice it's not fixed and say OH WELL. I know they usually test ride but I have picked my bike up for a repair and either brought it back as you did or call when I get home. It is such a pain to keep bringing back to get right. I would love to find a "fix it right the first time dealer". I know there out there I just gotta find one close to home.
