36 Degrees!!! Coping.... :) Helmet NOISE HELP?
How about some practical cold weather tips... ordered heated liners, should be here soon. I think the weak link is the helmet noise and fogging.
Best,

I've had the same issue with fullface helmets. It's almost as if the helmet shell acts as a drum skin amplifying the noise. I sold it and wear my half helmet now year round.
I can easily get by down to 32* with one of these for me ears...

pull it low to cover the gap between your eyebrows and your helmet, to prevent brain freeze.
When it gets lower than that, I'll start wearing my facemask in conjuction with the helmet and headband.

I ride to work on my night shifts...so when I come out in the mornings in November, I often have frost all over the bike. I've ridden in temps down to 17*, but my commute is only 16 miles and time in those conditions is definitely a factor.

Your trickle charge plug does go direct to the battery. If the plugs are the same, then it will work fine.

I have a $30 'flight jacket' from the Army/Navy store (man, I wish they hadn't gone out of business; going to be expensive to replace that thing when it wears out) that is toasty, even on the coldest mornings. I don't really have a temperature cutoff, but the snuggies aren't super waterproof, so if it's a precipitation morning, I have to drive in on too many wheels. My gloves are $5 Stuff*Mart ski gloves, and they're good for most of the low temperatures. My wife got me some battery-powered heated gloves, but if it's cold enough for them, they don't accomplish much (the wind carries the heat away before it reaches my fingers). Snuggy pants are similar A&N specials; when these wear out, I'll probably have to shop at a ski store or something (ouchie$). I wear one of my wife's scarves wrapped around my neck and chin, and honestly, a 55-mile commute at 70-75 mph isn't particularly bad. (The jacket has big enough pockets that I can alternate one hand in the pocket out of the wind if need be.

In terms of wind noise: I wear a full-head helmet (out of preference); haven't ever tried one of the half-helmets others like. I noticed the bell chamber effect long ago, and wasn't sure what to do about it. I use the biggest earplugs ($5 at the local Home Quarters or Home Depot) I can find (big ears), and that helps a lot (and, surprisingly, I still have no difficulty hearing what's going on on the highway around me). I still get the rumble of the ride, but substantially less ringing and noise. I found as well that replacing my stock windshield with an 18" Clearview (recurved top) took away (no lie) around 95% of the bell chamber noise. If I lean my head out into the airflow the ringing and slamming starts back up. Taller windshield for me _any_ day (which also makes the ride more fun on the cold mornings for which the above-mentioned snuggies are used).
