wearing custom ear plugs, I have no problem hearing what's around me, and that's with a 3/4 helmet. For the temps, I'm all Gerbing's head to toe....well not toe...haven't got the heated socks yet...but soon!!!
So is there any place to get the HD heated gear cheaper than the local dealer? At $220 for the liner, $189 gloves, $200 pants and $99 thats a big investment in heated gear!
Also, is there a way to stop some of the airfloe that rushes up your chest and hits your chin?
Noisiest helmet is a full face... I have to blast the MP3 player, I run through my CB headset...
Get a good Balaklava, and wear the other helmet... I find my 1/2 helmet too noisy also.. I like the 3/4 best of all.... with a head sock, I'm good to go... well THAt and my Gerbing electric gear...
gerbing makes all the harley heated gear try pricin them. when it gets cold i loose the helment for a fur lined leather bomber with a chin strap that snaps covers the ears face and down to neck warmest thing ive found for winter riding.
im in boston coldest ride so far this year has been 32deg. I wear under armour cold gear leggings and mock shirt along with a underarmour head sock and a 1/2 helmet. My hands are my biggest issue right now. I bought a set of winter gloves and hated them. I felt like I should be making snowballs instead of riding. I got a set of liners to go in my summer gloves so Ill see how that works.
I wear a 3/4 HJC F3 with faceshield, if its under 32 deg I plug in my heated gear. Gloves, jacket liner, and pants liner. If I'm on a long ride I wear the heated socks (I hate them as if you have to walk the wires will drive you crazy).
I install my lower fairing when the weather gets down to about 40 deg and sometimes even install the stock windshield.
A few years ago during Christmas vacation it was 14 deg on the front porch when I left the mtns of WNC headed for the coast. Cool ride the only discomfort I felt was it felt like my eyeballs were freezing, weird feeling for sure!
OK, so you really want to ride in cold weather? I live in Northern Vermont and today it is -32 degrees. Not that I am going out today, but up here we are used to cold riding when the road conditions allow, and we dress for it!
Similar to snowmobiling, we wear the right stuff to stay warm and dry, and I personally have purchased the new Harley Davidson XFRG Middle Weight Jacket and Pants system with a Yamaha solid Black snowmobile helmet with reflective piping trim. Yea it is pricy, but it also works out of the box without any extra gimmicks or attachments. I wear blue jeans and a turtleneck shirt under with nothing else needed. If you still get cold, you can add a heated vest, but I dont seem to need one. The FXRG riding gear is a major improvement on earlier riding gear, and that is has zippered vents if you get too warm, and when zipped up, the heat stays in, and the special wicker liner keeps you dry but warm. Do yourselves a favor and splurge for the best, you will not be disappointed, heck, you already spent a bundle on your ride, so what good is it if you cant ride it, get the gear! Happy Trails
I did a New Years day ride 21 degrees and windy this year. I wore jeans, long sleeve shirt, Key brand one piece insulated coveralls, Sorel pack boots, Turtle brand neck gator, stocking cap, and Kombi ski gloves. I removed the padding from my ACC polo helmet so it will fit on stocking cap. I ride a 2007 police RK and I use the tall windshield that I have to look thru. My fingers were starting to get cold after 45 minutes on the interstate. All in all this set up works pretty well but I can't wait for an 80 degree day!
before you know it, the daffodils will be blooming and elmer fudd will be out hunting the easter bunny. can't wait. this has been a colder than usual winter even here in oklahoma. for your issue, i'd suggest the foam earplugs. they do remove quite a bit of unwanted noise, and they're really cheap at lowes or home depot too.
